THE ARTWORK OF STEVEN MULLER
BOSTON AND NEW HAMPSHIRE BASED
This work came out of nowhere during the summer of 2020 in seclusion due to the pandemic. The started with a split piece of wood from installing a mailbox of all things. Next I hit the woodpile.
All my photographs are altered in some way. Hand drawn, cut with razorblades and altered with chemicals.
Ink Jet Reduction is my invention for altering by removing and relocation portions of the ink jet.
Working in an artist cooperative building it was and is necessary and an obligation to do board work. I found this job very distracting and drew a line in the sand so to speak. I had not painted on this scale since the 90s, and I set January 2023 as the starting point with no exact direction or expectation. This is what I have done.
This was a breakthrough series that started the Ink Jet Reduction process. I didn't like the finished look and started sanding and grinding the work on the floor. Safety concerns led to the chemical reduction to avoid breathing unwanted pigments.
